Top 10 Collectible Minifigures: Series 4-6

A year ago I picked out my favourite five Collectible Minifigures from Series 1-3. It’s been a while coming, but I have now selected what I consider to be the best of the bunch from Series 4-6. Just to be difficult though, I have decided to extend it to my ten favourites. Perhaps the quality has improved, perhaps I’m not being decisive enough, but get ready to disagree…

10.Surgeon - Series 6 (8827)I still find it hard to get past the idea that female mini-figures are no longer a huge anomaly, and now we get a fair smattering throughout the year. Especially in the Collectible Minifigures line, which has more gender cross-over than any other LEGO line. But here we have a female surgeon, who with her x-ray (God love the Collectible Minifigures for having printed tile accessories) would make a great addition to any LEGO Hospital.

9.Zoo Keeper – Series 5 (8805)The monkey may be half the size of its banana, but it is one of the best accessories to be introduced in the Collectible Minifigures line. LEGO need to get a little better at utilising some of these new pieces into regular sets, as one of the main reasons we all love LEGO is compatibility. Since it seems like LEGO will never release a zoo (apparently market research found boys think zoos are ‘babyish’), it’s nice to have a Zoo Keeper to use in your MOC one.

8.Graduate – Series 5 (8805)There are certain Collectible Minifigures, such as this one, that would be great for keeping on hand for a special occasion to give to a friend or relative. This figure will fit in great in City set-ups, and a bit of face swapping could lead to a class of graduates celebrating. Without his gown he has a jumper over a shirt so has a multi-use torso, and his certificate accessory would also look great decorating an office or house.

7.Gangster – Series 5 (8805)A brilliant archetypal gangster – or “businessman” – with that excellent violin case accessory. Awesome stuff, either just sitting on a desk or casually strolling around a LEGO City.

6.Crazy Scientist – Series 4 (8804)Since Monster Fighters kicked off we have been spoiled with the various creepy mini-figures available, but up until then it was the Collectible Minifigures line keeping us stocked up with spooky characters. He is full of character, instantly recognisable, and has an awesome accessory in his vial of who-knows-what.

5.Musketeer – Series 4 (8804)This mini-figure has an iconic look reminiscent of the film The Three Musketeers, so many fans will no doubt have purchased an extra couple to look dashing together. Equally this mini-fig feels like he would be at home on the deck of a ship from the Pirates theme. A nice design, plus a cool hat, plume and musket make this a great addition to the line.

4.Flamenco Dancer – Series 6 (8827)This mini-figure seems to ooze character, and is another fun addition to the various cultural representations from around the world. She could also be utilised to bring some feminine energy to the Western sets, her outfit feels like she would be right at home there. This mini-figure also has a neat hair piece only used so far in the Collectible Minifigures line.

3.Lady Liberty – Series 6 (8827)Perhaps it is the success of the Collectible Minifigures so far that allow so many cool and unique moulds to find their way into these packets, and some make for especially awesome looking mini-figures. Lady Liberty may not have much army-building or multi-use potential, but is a fantastic looking LEGO re-creation of a real life monument.

2.Genie – Series 6 (8827)This is a truly unique mini-figure, who doesn’t lose the LEGO ‘flavour’ through having an unusual bottom part. The included lamp for the Genie to clip onto and detachable ruby are nice touches. This kind of character really stands out in the theme, and if every mini-figure was so distinctive looking he wouldn’t be special. But thankfully he is, and let’s hope LEGO continue to throw in the odd Collectible Minifigure as unique as the Genie.

1.Hazmat Guy – Series 4 (8804)Character! This guy is so full of character! The trembling expression says so much, and the outfit has been designed in such a way as that it’s instantly recognisable but still looks like LEGO. Just as it should be.  Unsurprisingly the Hazmat Guy pops up often on licensed LEGO products as he has such a cool design. Also, he had some help snagging the top spot just because of what a brilliantly random choice he was for inclusion in the Collectible Minifigures line!
